Most Americans today practice charitable giving and/or volunteer their time to their favorite charities. In fact, Gallup reports eighty three percent of us donated to charity within the past year, sixty five percent volunteered, and 138 million Americans (that’s 62.5 percent, according to the Corp for National & Community Service) also engaged in some sort of informal volunteering within their communities―helping friends and neighbors out with childcare, shopping, house and pet sitting.
That might be enough for some, but not for Nino Roy Machado of All City Realty Group at RE/MAX Gold in Midtown. Roy’s taken his philanthropic efforts to a whole new level.
Roy has put a great deal of time and energy into coordinating an art, music and cultural event he’s named Art (sic) benefiting nonprofits who host after school youth arts, music and cultural programs in Sacramento. Art (sic) takes place this weekend during Second Saturday in Midtown on Matsui Alley (between Capitol Ave. & N Street/20th & 21st Streets) starting at 5pm.
So, Roy is the engineer building the bridge connecting businesses (specifically Real Estate Agents) with the local non-profit organizations in which we speak. “We are an industry that directly serves communities; linking home buyers and sellers we are already directly involved in bringing our communities together,” Roy said. “This kind of event is a great way to get professionals involved with community organizations that service the youth in the neighborhoods we sell homes.”
Roy said he’s concerned, and we should be too, over massive cut backs in arts education in schools and communities and wants to ensure these outlets of expression continue to be available to our youth.
“As resources become scarce in music and arts education, generations of musicians and artists are being lost,” Roy said. “Nonprofits need help funding their sought after and needed programs. My goal creating this event is to foster a dialogue between businesses and communities, who all rely on each other to be successful and significant.”
He figured the best way to help was to reach out to the business community to which he belongs, “As professionals, to best serve our clients and patrons, we need to be active participants in our communities with a balance of an authoritative voice and an authentic voice,” he said.
There will be live art painting exhibitions featuring local talent and a showcase of Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, Roots, Ragae & Ska bands.
The event is sponsored by Old Republic Home Warranty, Residential Home Loans, Farmers Insurance, Broderick, Federalist Public House, Allied Title & Escrow. The following business stepped up to help Roy coordinate: All City Realty Group, RE/MAX Gold, Sol Collective, Low End Theory Collaborative.
RE/MAX Gold at 2014 Capitol will host a pop-up art gallery. There will be plenty of food and drink with proceeds from Federalist Public House beer sales going straight to non-profit arts organizations.
“We hope for this event to be just the beginning of a sustainable and worthwhile relationship for all those involved. Come on out!” Roy said.
