The Rotary Club of Dixon will hold a remote control destruction derby fundraising event on Saturday, July 8 in the open field next to the Dixon Chamber of Commerce.
“We wanted to do something new and different yet fun for the whole family,” said Kevin Johnson incoming President for the Rotary Club of Dixon. “And, we knew these kinds of events are now wildly popular in other parts of the country. This is a head-to-head tournament that any 6-year-old can participate in,” he said.
Prize money will be given to the first place winner earning $1,000.
Rotary organizers encourage people to register now as space is limited. Registration is $100, which includes a remote-controlled derby car. While modifications are prohibited, contestants can have fun personalizing and decorating it for their business or team.
Participants will be required to generate a minimum of $50 in personal sponsors for their car and submit those prior to June 30. Rules, regulations and more information are available at www.DixonCaRotary.org.
Check in will be on the day of the event at 10 a.m. with heats starting at 11. Finals will be at 2 p.m. with awards and trophies afterward.
“Sportsmanship is paramount and I am certain this will be a great family event for many years. Any shenanigans are not allowed and there will be positively no arguing, fighting or belly-aching,” said Johnson with a laugh.
